Nerds Marry at Comic Convention
Few things make me giddier than nerds in love. And nerds getting married at the Alternative Press Expo comic convention? Are you serious?! Awesome!
From their press release:
Steph Cortés, founder of nerd JERK, and Roger Moore (Able Screen Printing, Effing Awesome), met three and half years ago; over jams in their indie band, long philosophical chats about music and art theory, and impromptu comic drawing sessions – they became each others’ muses and fell in nerd love.
The couple got engaged in early 2012, but two busy schedules and a lack of funds meant putting off any wedding planning. Cortés and Moore were already attending APE as vendors when a friend encouraged them to get married DIY-style at the con – they realized there was no better way to take the leap.
“We want to share our excitement at APE because we’re giant nerds. And we’ll get hitched among our favorite peoples: the geeks!” says Cortés. “This community has inspired and supported each of us through some tough times. These are the humans we want to rock out with, those who cherish the same free-thinking, collaborative, DIY geeky values that we do. And hopefully we’ll inspire APE attendees we don’t even know – that’s pretty rad.”
“Roger and I are over the moon,” Cortés says. “We can’t wait to see what other nerdy mashup magic happens and hope everyone stops by to celebrate our epic union of doom!”
I wish Steph and Roger a beautiful future together, filled with nerdtastic crafting and music-making and giggling! Congratulations on your wedding. Keep up the geekery!
